Promontory Point, Utah, is the southernmost edge of the Promontory Mountains in southern Box Elder County, Utah, centered approximately at , with an elevation of 1285 meters (4217 feet) above sea level[1]. It is located on a promontory (peninsula) in the northern part of the Great Salt Lake.
Promontory Point is also the cape where this place is located, centered approximately at , with an elevation of 1309 meters (4297 feet) above sea level [2]. It is the location of the northern Utah weather radar.
Neither of these is the point where the Union Pacific and Central Pacific railroad companies met, to form the First Transcontinental Railroad. For that reference, see Promontory Summit near Promontory, Utah. Promontory Point is, however, on the later Lucin Cutoff, built to bypass the Summit.
Near the Promontory Mountains is ATK, manufacturer of the Space Shuttle Solid Rocket Booster. After the SRBs are retrieved from the ocean following a launch, they are shipped by train back to ATK (formerly Thiokol) for refurbishment.
